Experiencing the Mabira Forest canopy just makes you behave like a monkey! The first of its kind in Uganda. The Mabira Forest Canopy Super Skyway is a canopy “zip-line” system that sends you soaring between the tallest trees in the rainforest. Located 44kms East of Kampala City, outside of Lugazi town at the griffin falls camp, the skyway makes for a great day.
Semuliki’s natural wonders extend beyond its forests and rivers. The park is a living laboratory of geological processes, revealing evidence of Rift Valley formation dating back 14 million years.
One of its most famous attractions is the Sempaya Hot Springs, where boiling water bubbles up from deep underground, releasing steam into the forest. These geothermal springs, some reaching temperatures hot enough to boil eggs, offer a dramatic demonstration of the powerful subterranean forces still shaping the East African Rift.
There are two species of gorilla recorded only in Africa: the Eastern and Western Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla). Uganda’s mountain gorilla is a subspecies of the Eastern gorilla, found only in the east-central African rainforests. As their name hints, they live only in the mountains at elevations between 8,000 and 13,000 feet.
According to a recent publication (2018), a little more than 1,000 mountain gorillas remaining on Earth. Some of the mountain gorilla population lives in the rainforests of the Virunga mountains in central Africa. The other almost half roam the montane jungle floors of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
